Tilbury, Ontario is a community in Southwestern Ontario that falls between Windsor and Chatham. Tilbury is considered to be part of the Chatham-Kent region. When Tilbury was incorporated as a village in 1887, it brought together two communities across two different counties. Tilbury West resided in Essex County while Tilbury East was in Kent County, after their unification, they came together under the shared name of Tilbury. The town has a history of industry and agriculture and currently holds the designation of a French-Language service area.

In 1998, Tilbury along with all other communities in the former Kent County joined with the City of Chatham to form the Chatham-Kent municipality. Now, Tilbury sports a population of 4,768 people. Tilbury’s location is key to its moniker, “The Light Between the Lakes” as the town is situated between Lake St. Clair to the North and Lake Erie to the South. Lake access isn’t the only thing convenient about Tilbury’s location as its place on the 401 highway makes it a 40 minute drive to Windsor and a 20 minute drive to Chatham in the other direction.

The region is experiencing large jumps in their real estate market, with sales and prices rising despite a relatively low inventory of properties. Following an approximately 20% increase from 2018, the average list pricing for a property in Chatham-Kent is around the $250,000 mark. Tilbury has an offering of four schools across three different boards. Tilbury Area Public School and Tilbury District High School are two schools in the Lambton-Kent District School Board. The St. Clair Catholic District Board has one elementary school called St. Joseph and the French-Catholic Board, Conseil scolaire catholique Providence has École élémentaire catholique Saint-Francis. Other programs and a wider selection of private schools can be found in the larger city of Chatham at the centre of the municipality.
Public facilities and attractions contribute to the tight-knit feeling of community in Tilbury, Ontario. Such facilities include the Tilbury Arena, Tilbury Memorial Pool, and the Odette Memorial Library. In addition to its own parks and trails, residents of Tilbury also have access to the green spaces, campgrounds, and beaches that are found throughout the Chatham-Kent municipality.
