Mount Hope Ontario Overview
Mount Hope is a neighbourhood in the city of Hamilton. Before the city absorbed the Wentworth County municipalities in 2001, Mount Hope was a part of the Glanbrook township formed in the 1970s. To this day, Mount Hope is still considered a part of Glanbrook and makes up part of the community’s population of nearly 30,000 people. The area is known for housing Hamilton’s International Airport, the Warplane Heritage Museum, and several golf courses and green spaces outside of the urban centre of Hamilton.
Real Estate in Mount Hope Ontario
Glanbrook is located in the southwestern area of the City of Hamilton, with Mount Hope being very close to the border with Haldimand County further south. Northwest is the community of Ancaster, with the Hamilton City core further to the northeast. To the southeast is Brinbrook, which was one of the original communities that formed Glanbrook with Mount Hope. The nearby city of Brantford is 30 minutes directly west of Mount Hope.
Since the 2001 amalgamation, the population of Glanbrook has doubled and then some. The overall growth of the Hamilton Area had a positive impact on the market of Glanbrook - and the neighbourhood of Mount Hope as well. When compared with the other communities outside of the Hamilton core, Glanbrook’s sales were right in the middle. Their 2019 totals were higher than the smaller communities of Dundas, Flamborough, and Waterdown, but fell short of Ancaster and Stoney Creek. The average sale price in Glanbrook was around $590,000, exceeding the regional average of $535,000 because there are more detached properties in the region than condos.
Living in Mount Hope Ontario
Mount Hope is a little more rural than some other communities in the Greater Hamilton Area, but its residents still have convenient access to the big city’s amenities. The John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport in Mount Hope is connected to the Hamilton Street Railway System providing public transit access to the rest of the city. The core of Hamilton is about 15 minutes away by car and is the commuter hub into the Greater Toronto Area with public transportation offered in the form of both GO Train and GO Bus options.
Mount Hope only has one school in the neighbourhood, Mount Hope Public school, an elementary school for JK to Grade 8 operated by the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board. Other options provided by the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board and public secondary school options are offered throughout the city of Hamilton.
Mount Hope and the nearby communities in Glanbrook make great use of the open space outside of the more urban parts of Hamilton. The area is filled with educational spots, golf courses, and various outdoor attractions for a weekend of fun. Mount Hope has its own branch of the Hamilton Public Library on Homestead Drive and it is also home to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum. Golf-enthusiasts can take their pick of the Southern Pines Golf & Country Club or the Willow Valley Golf Course, both very close to the main intersection of Mount Hope. All of that is just in one area of a very big city! There are plenty of sights to see and attractions to enjoy all throughout the city of Hamilton as well.
