Kirkendall, Hamilton, Ontario Overview

Kirkendall is a neighbourhood in western Hamilton centre. The neighbourhood is commonly divided into two areas: Kirkendall North and Kirkendall South. Both are bound in the west by the 403 Highway and in the east by Queen Street. They are both south of Main Street and west of other popular central neighbourhoods Corktown and Durand. This area is extremely sought after because of its close connection to urban, central Hamilton to the north and east and access to the Niagara Escarpment and the Chedoke Golf Club to the south. The blend of city and nature is popular among residents who want a taste of the outdoors without sacrificing urban convenience.

Real Estate in Kirkendall

In addition to being a blend of urban and nature, Kirkendall is also a charming mix of newer and older properties. Original homes in the neighbourhood are older, but chock-full of charm and personality while newer detached homes and condominiums are a lot more expensive, but sleek, modern, and updated. There is rarely an older condo or smaller, older bungalow for less than $500,000, but they are not on the market for long. A budget of $530,000 to $799,900 corresponds to an older detached property or an apartment-style condo unit in a new building. Upwards of $800,000, renovated older homes with acreage are on the table and for about $1,000,000, brand new detached homes are available as well. This makes Kirkendall one of the more expensive central Hamilton neighbourhoods and its continued popularity ensures that as long home prices in Hamilton rise, they will only further increase in this popular neighbourhood.

Living in Kirkendall

On top of diverse housing availability, both neighbourhoods are filled with conveniences and outings that quickly become resident-favourites. Locke Street runs through North Kirkendall and is lined with a host of amazing dining like The Burnt Tongue, Earth to Table: Bread Bar, Democracy*, Donut Monster, and so many more. Restaurants aside, Kirkendall is also the home of thriving local businesses, many of which are also located on Locke Street, but also several others over the span of the neighbourhood. Recreation in Kirkendall is readily available with its own branch of the Hamilton Public Library also on Locke, the Ryerson Recreation Centre and Amateur Athletic Association Grounds in the north, and the Chedoke Golf Club, Park, and Falls in the south.
