Gibson and Stipley are two neighbouring neighbourhoods that are often considered together when exploring housing options in Hamilton. They are located side-by-side in Hamilton centre. Both are north of Main Street and south of Industrial sectors B and C, just east of the downtown core of the city. On top of a great centralized location, both neighbourhoods are quite affordable for first time home buyers.

Gibson in particular made Maclean’s “Top 3” in their ranking of Hamilton neighbourhoods. The number one factor for a lot of Hamilton home-buyers is cost and both neighbourhoods are quite affordable. Both neighbourhoods have mostly single family homes that are detached, but very close together. That being said, the average price of about $530,000 in either area would only get you a newer, but smaller condo unit in neighbourhoods closer to downtown. Despite being a little older, homes in Gibson and Stipley are filled with charming character, usually boasting 3+ bedrooms and an average of at least 1,500 square feet of living space.
Living in Gibson or Stipley
Between the two neighbourhoods, there are plenty of attractions to enjoy alone or with family. Stipley is home to both the Tim Hortons Field multi-purpose stadium and the Little Rays Reptile Zoo and Nature Centre - which is great for kids, too. Living in the southern end of Stipley means that you are very close to the beautiful Gage Park as well. Both neighbourhoods are home to some time-saving conveniences. Barton Street, Cannon Street, King Street, and Main Street all run through Gibson and Stipley. Each street offers big name fast food, local businesses, and a wide range of dining choices at maximum convenience for residents of either neighbourhood. Living in either Gibson or Stipley ensures that you are not too far from downtown Hamilton, you have reliable access to Hamilton’s public transportation, and you have several school options within walking distance.
