Downtown Hamilton is the core of the Hamilton Centre area. It is also known as Central Hamilton and is an urban neighbourhood that contains a lot of restaurants, shops, businesses, and other attractions as well as a few residences. The larger area of downtown Hamilton is bound by Barton Street to the north, Wentworth to the east, Main Street to the south, and Dundurn Street to the west. Several parks and green spaces dot the area as well including Victoria Park, Central Park, Gore Park, Beasley Park, and JC Beemer Park with Dundurn Castle and Garden not far from the northwestern corner of the neighbourhood.
