Corktown, Hamilton Overview

If you are looking for a neighbourhood slightly removed from downtown, but still incredibly convenient, look no further than Corktown! Corktown is a central neighbourhood in the Hamilton core. It is bound by Main Street to the north, Wellington Street to the east, James Street to the west, and the Claremont Access and the Niagara Escarpment to the South. It is very close to downtown Hamilton and the older, urban neighbourhood shares many similarities.

Real Estate in Corktown

Most properties in Corktown are apartments and high-rise buildings. Due to the age of the neighbourhood, many of the properties available were built well before the 1980s. Any more recent development in the neighbourhood has been new apartment-style condominiums. The majority of Corktown residents are renters. The average cost of renting in Corktown is about $1,500 for a single bedroom apartment - with the newer buildings commanding generally high prices. Residents hoping to own property in the neighbourhood are looking at a range of $225,000 to $350,000 for condo ownership and $600,000 and above for semi-detached and detached homes. Recent efforts to reinvigorate Corktown have seen results in the increased demand for the neighbourhood and the consequence of rising housing and rent prices. That being said, compared to the average price of $620,000 for a residential property in Hamilton, Corktown remains an affordable option.
