East Gwillimbury, Ontario Overview

East Gwillimbury, Ontario, is in the northern part of York Region, 30 minutes north of Toronto. East Gwillimbury strikes a nice balance between growing urban areas and smaller villages such as Holland Landing and Queensville. The majority of its 238 sq km area is made up of beautiful green space, including farms and forests.

The municipality began its development in the late 18th century. As it grew, a number of communities popped up in the area, including Brown Hill, Franklin, Holt, Mount Albert, and Sharon.

Under the Places to Grow act by the Province of Ontario, East Gwillimbury is expected to grow by 23,000 residents to 88,400 by 2031.

Nearly 75% of the land will still remain green space as part of the development plan. Growth will be concentrated in the villages of Holland Landing, Sharon, Queensville, and Mount Albert.
