Crystal Beach Overview

Crystal Beach Fort Erie Overview

Crystal Beach is a community in the town of Fort Erie. It gets its name from the Lake Erie beach within the community known for its clear waters. The area has a year-round population of about 8,500 people, but that number is bolstered by the summer tourism rush to its beautiful shores. In the 1970s, the town of Fort Erie amalgamated several neighbouring townships to form the boundaries of the town as it is today. This amalgamation added Crystal Beach to the municipality, bringing Fort Erie’s total area to 166 square kilometres.

Since the 1800s, Crystal Beach has been one of the go-to vacation destinations for residents of Ontario and New York alike. The clear shores of Lake Erie and the various attractions that sprung up around it drew in crowds year after year. Even though the Crystal Beach amusement park has been closed since 1989, Crystal Beach still makes for a popular area for vacations and cottages because of lakefront views and the Niagara region’s milder climate.
